Srikanth, Axelsen, Lin Dan, enter QFs of Celcom Axiata Malayasia Open 2019

Patna : World No 7 Kidambi Srikanth, India, beat World No 18 Khosit Phetpradab, 24, Thailand, in the 2nd round to enter the quarter-finals of Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament, at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 4, 2019.

Srikanth, who had reached the India Open final in March, 2019, beat Phetpradab in straight games 21-11, 21-15 in 32 minutes to advance to the QFs. Srikanth won 42 rallies in the match to 26 by Phetpradab. He won 5 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Phetpradab. This was first meeting between the two players.

World No 2 Shi Yuqi, China, World No 4 Viktor Axelsen, Denmark, World No 11 Kenta Nishimoto, Japan, World No 13 Kenta Tsuneyama, Japan, and World No 16 Lin Dan, China, have also reached the QFs of the tournament.

Axelsen beat World No 20 Lu Guanzu, China, in a tough three-game contest 21-11, 16-21, 21-17 in 52 minutes in the 2nd round while Shi Yuqi beat World No 12 Anders Antonsen, Denmark, 21-18, 21-19 in 46 minutes in the 2nd round. Lin Dan beat World No 33 Suppanyu Avihingsanon, Thailand, 25.23, 21-8 in 45 minutes in the 2nd round.
