Patna : Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC )  is going  to   launch   its e-wallet for payment for e-ticket booking on its website to improve passenger amenities. IRCTC  says it is a pilot project  of the railways.  The IRCTC,  which had earlier detected glitches  in this project , has  removed  them.

IRCTC senior manager Sandip Dutta  said  that   registration  is likely to be  free for about  one month for availing e-wallet service  from now .   The IRCTC would, however,  charge a nominal  introductory  price of Rs 50 for each registration  for  availing e-wallet services . The IRCTC e-wallet has  advantages  compared to other payment options on its website, he said .

Dutta said  that the new system has a very high payment success rate  while booking online tickets. The e-wallet  system  is likely to  reduce the complaints of “payment deducted,  but ticket not booked”  from the peopl. The  e-wallet can be topped up in the multiple of  Rs 100 up to a maximum of  Rs 10,000  in a month. This payment  instrument has a transaction charge of Rs 5 only  per transaction , he said .

Dutta said  the e-wallet payment mode   is  still cheaper compared  to  other payment options on the IRCTC site. Payment through IRCTC e-wallet is highly secured  in the sense that  people opting for booking tickets  will get  authentication through password and OTP ( one time password ) on  the registered mobile at the time of payment, he said adding  the IRCTC e-wallet registration is at present available by verification through PAN card and  Aadhar card. .
