Bagaha: Dinesh Kumar Chaudhary, Chief Engineer, Flood Control, Muzaffarpur, on Sunday said five engineers have been suspend on the charge of irregularities in the construction of Gandak left embankment under Bagaha Town Protection Project due to which it breached at several points recently.
The engineers who have been suspended are: Anshuman Thakur, executive engineer, PN Pandey, assistant engineer, Randhir Singh, Bhuvaneshwar Singh and and Shobha Kant Jha, all Junior Engineers (JEs).
Sources said that about 3,600 metre long protection embankment at cost of Rs 37 crore was made before this rainy season. State Water Resources Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh had inspected work site on June 16 this year and warned engineers and contractors that in the vents of any lapse the construction of embankment they will not be spared. But, just a little pressure of recent Gangak flood, the protection embankment had breached at several points resulting in Gandak water inundating several localities under Bagaha Nagar Parishad with ward numbers 4 , 33 and 35 being the worst affected. The embankment was also damaged near Mangalpur and Chiran tola after which Gandak water entered Kailashnagar, Bagaha jail , officers’ colony, SDM premises and other areas.
Replying to a query regarding damage to Gandak Barrage shuter 33, Valmikinagar, on July 21-22, the chief engineer said that a report has been sent to the state government for necessary action.
Meanwhile, two persons drowned in flood on Saturday. Sheobalak Yadav, 55, of village Barawa under Ramnagar block, drowned in Masan river while crossing the river with cattle. One Imran Mian of village Chhathia under Bagaha- 1 block drowned while taking bath with others in Gandak flood water. Both the bodies were fished out.
