Patna : The 186 bed Chhapra Sadar Hospital in Saran district does not have a regular Anaesthetist and the operation are being performed by hiring private Anaesthetists. The post of Anaesthitist has been lying vacant at the hospital for the past one year.

When contacted, Deputy Superintendent (DS), Chhapra Sadar Hospital, Dr Shambhu Nath Singh said the Saran Civil Surgeon and Regional Director, Health, have been informed about the absence of a regular Anaesthistist at the hospital. Replying to a query, DS Dr Singh said that the Surgery and Obstetrics  and Gynaecology wards have 40 beds each.

Surprisingly, the 4 bed ICO of Cardiology unit of the hospital is also locked for the last one month in the absence of a cardiologist. DS Dr Singh said that the cardiologist concerned retired one month back. The ICU is locked since then and the hospital is yet to get a replacement. Civil Surgeon, Saran, and Regional Director, Health, have been informed about the situation, said Dr Singh.
