VKSU students call off fast unto death agitation, demands conceded

Ara : The three – day old fast unto death agitation by the boarders of a Post Graduate girls’ hostel on the campus of  Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, led by VKSU students’ union president Amit Kumar and other student leaders was called off on July 5, 2018, night, after the VKSU administration conceded their  12 point demands in the late evening the same day.

Pro-Vice Chancellor, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah, Dean, Students Welfare (DSW) Kundan Singh, Examination Coordinator Sanjay Kumar Tripathi administered fruit juice to the students on fast unto death.

The students were on fast unto death in front of the office of the Pro-VC, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah since July 3, 2018, in protest against the indifferent attitude of the VKSU administration to the problems facing them and also to press their 12 point of demands. They were agitating against non- supply of food to the boarders of girls hostel for the last three days, delay in publication of BA Part II pending results (session 2015-2018) after rectification. Their demands also included suspension of Deputy Superintendent, Caretaker and Incharge of the girls’ hostel, Mess at the girls’ hostel, fulfillment of promises made at the Student Panchayat, andinquiry into the largescale irregularities in sell of answer- books. During three day agitation, condition of students on fast deteriorated and they were admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital.

Pro-VC Nank Kishor Sah said that all the demands of the students had been conceded and  Mess has been started at the PG girls’ Hostel and the inmates have to pay Rs 1,800 per month as ever. Two extra staffs will be appointed at the hostel and an inquiry will be conducted into the sale of old answer- books after order from the Governor’s office, Sah said adding basic amenities will be restored within two or three days. A  proposal has been sent to the RUSA for the construction of a Boys hostel on the new university campus. He said that date for the BA part III examination will be announced by the last week of July or first week of August.

The Pro-VC said that a five- member committee comprising two officials of the university, two boarders of the girls’ hostel and a representative of the student union, has been formed to streamline system at the hostel and also assured to appoint two more cooks and a helper. The Pro-VC further said that a three member committee will be formed within a week to inquire into the sale to answer- books and the Caretaker of the girls hostel will be replaced and construction of a 200 room hostel will start from July 15, 2018.
