Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings Roger Federer, 36, Switzeland, World No 16 Roberto Bautista Agut, 30, Spain, and World No 109 Denis Kudla, 25, USA, entered the semi-finals of Halle Open tournament, an ATP 500 Grass Court event in Germany.

Defending champion Federer beat World No 60 Matthew Ebden, 30, Australia, 7-6, 7-5, in the quarter-finals on June 22. Ebden committed 5 double faults in the match to Federer’s none. Ebden, however, fired 8 Aces while Federer fired 6 Aces in the match. Federer’s winning percentage on both first and second serve was better than that of his rival. Federer won three break points while Ebden won two. By reaching the semi-finals, Federer has secured his World No 1 position.

Roberto Bautista Agut defeated World No 36 Karen Kachanov, 22, Russia, in three-sets 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, in the quarter-finals. Kachanov fired 7 Aces in the match to Agut’s just 3. Kachanov, however, committed 4 double faults. Agut won three break points while Kachanow won just one. Agut won 5 games in a row compared to 3 by Kachanov.

World No 109 Denis Kudla, 25, USA, beat World No 52 Yuichi Sugita, 29, Japan, 6-2, 7-5, in the quarter-finals. Sugita hammered 8 Aces while Kudla fired 6 Aces. Kudla committed 4 double faults to Sugita’s 3. Kudla, however, won 4 break points while Sugita won just one.
