Patna : Two time FIFA World Cup winner Uruguay defeated Egypt 1-0 in a Group A match on day 2 of FIFA World Cup 2018 on June 15, 2018, at Ekaterinburg Arena, Russia, in a very close contest. The Uruguay have won their opening match for the first time in World Cup since 1970 with Jose Gimenez scoring the winning goal in 90th minute on a pass from Carlos Sanchez. Two Egyptian players: Ahmed Hegazi and Sam Morsy, were shown the yellow card during the match.
This Egypt’s third FIFA World Cup appearance while it is Uruguay’s 13th appearance. Uruguay had won FIFA World Cup in 1930 and 1950 besides reaching semi-finals five times.
