Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and ten time champon Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, beat World No 12 Diego Schwartzman, 25, Argentina, in four sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter-finals on Philippe Chatrier court, Roland Garros, Paris, on June 7, 2018, to enter the semi-finals (SF) of French Open 2018. It will be Nadal’ s 27th semi-final apperance in the four Grand Slam tournaments. He now leads Schwartzman 6-0 head to head.

The Nadal – Schwartzman quarter-finals match was suspended on June 6, 2018, night, due to bad wather with the Argentinian leading 6-4, 3-5. Nadal had lost a set for the first time in the tournament this year. But, when the match resumed on June 7 afternoon, Nadal was all over Schwartzman and won the second, third, and fourth sets comfortably. The match witnessed long rallies between the two players some of them exceeding 20 strokes. The last game of the 4th set lasted 11 minutes.

Both the players served one Ace each in the match and both of them also committed 3 double faults each. Nadal won 9 break points compared to 5 by Schwartzman. Nadal won 6 games in a row in the match while Schwartzman won two. Suprisingly, a player of Nadal’s stature committed too many unforced errors in the match. Nadal, winner of 16 Grand Slam singles titles, won 137 points while Schwartzman won 110 points in the match.
