Patna : World No 1 in WTA rankings Simona Halep, 26, Romania, and World No 3 and reigning Wimbledon Champion Garbine Muguruza, 24, Spain, entered the semi-finals (SF) of French Open 2018 on June 6, 2018.

Halep beat World No 12 Angelique Kerber, 30, Germany, a former US Open and Australian Open Champion, in three-sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals on Suzanne Lenglen Court, Roland Garros, Paris, to book a berth in the semi-finals. Halep won 8 break points compared to 4 by Kerber. Kerber fired 2 Aces to one by Halep. Halep committed 4 double faults compared to 3 by Kerber. Both the players won 4 games each in a row.

Muguruza, on the other hand, routed World No 30 Maria Sharapova, 31, French Open Champion in 2012 and 2014, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarter-finals on Philippe Chatrier court to enter the semi-finals. Sharapova committed 6 double faults in the match while Muguruza committed 2. Muguruza won 6 break while Sharapova won just one. Muguruza also won 5 games in a row. Her winning percentage on both first and second serve was also much better than that of Sharapova.
