Ara : A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tier Police station in Bhojpur district allegedly thrashed and broke the hand of Varun Deo Chandravanshi of village Hetampur at the police station about 20 days ago and sent him to jail without treatment. The matter came to light on May 29, 2018, when an X-ray done on him at Ara Sadar Hospital showed that he had fractured bone. The doctors at Ara Sadar Hospital refused to operate on him as the matter had gone out of their control and so they referred him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
SHO, Tier police station, arrested Varun Deo from Hetampur village about 20 days ago under the SC/ST Act and thrashed him at the police station till his hand was fractured. Varun Deo Chandravanshi complained severe pain in his hand and requested police to take him to a doctor but the SHO did not pay any heed and sent him to jail after keeping in custody for 24 hours.
When his pain became unbearable, Ara Jail Superintendent Niranjan Pandit admitted him to Ara Sadar Hospital about five days ago but the doctors there did not treat him properly during the period. On May 29, under pressure, the doctors at the Sadar Hospital did his X-ray that showed that his bone was fractured and a layer of flesh has overcast the bone and so he could not be operated upon at the Sadar Hospital. The doctors referred him to PMCH.
Varun Deo Chandravanshi’s son Vishal Kumar said at Ara Sadar Hospital that police thrashed and fractured the hand of his father and alleged that police were hand in glove with the persons who had lodged complaint with them against him to implicate him in a false case. He said had he and his family members did not put pressure on the hospital administration, X-ray would not have done.
Deputy Superintendent, Ara Sadar Hospital, Dr Satish Kumar said that as the matter came to his notice he took cognizance and an X-ray was done Varun Deo Chandravanshi.
Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar said that an inquiry would be conducted and the guilty would not be spared. He said that no one is allowed to take law into his/ her hand.
