Ara : Under the banner of Government Advocates Welfare Union hundreds of advocates, social workers, doctors, intellectuals and political leaders on May 12, 2018, took out a procession from Jai Prakash Memorial that passed through the main thoroughfares of Ara town and culminated at Shaheed Bhawan roundabout demanding scrapping of collegium system in appointment of judges in the High Courts and also in Supreme Court of the country.

Addressing the gathering, Advocate Devendra Prasad and Dr Surendra Kumar Prasad said that the government should end collegium system in the appointment of judges and introduce All India Legal Service by amending  article 312 of the Indian Constitution. They said that the appointment of judges should be made on merit basis through competitive examination organized by Union Public Service Commission. Earlier, a memorandum signed by over hundreds of intellectuals in Bhojpur district was sent to the President, Prime Minister, Law Minister, and  Chief justice of Patna High Court.

Nand Lal Kushwaha, Lal Babu Srivastva, Ajit Ranjan Kumar, Durg Vijay Kumar Singh, Ashok Singh, Dilip Singh, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, Arun Kumar Singh, Shankar Prasad Pintu, Shivshankar, Prabhat Kumar Singh, Vijay Shankar Tiwari, Devendra Sinha, Jai Prakash Narayan, Surendra Singh, Ashok Sharma, Suresh Vishwakarma, Vaidyanath Yadav, Niramal Singh also addressed the gathering.
