Nadal, Zverev enter quarter-finals of Madrid Open

Patna : World N0. 1 Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, defeated World N0. 16 Diego Schwartzman, 25, Argentina, the 13th seed, 6-3, 6-4, at La Caga Magica, Madrid, Spain, on late May 10, 2018, night, to enter the quarter-finals of ATP Madrid Open Masters 1000. Five time champion and top seed Nadal will play World N0. 7 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, in the quarter-finals. Thiem defeated World N0 35 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, in the third round.

World N0 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, the second seed, defeated Leonardo Mayer, 30, Argentina, the World N0 5, 6-4, 6-2, to enter the quarter-finals. World N0 9 John Isner, 33, USA, also entered the quarter-finals of Madrid Open defeating World N0 47 Pablo Gabriel Tito Cuevas, 32, Uruguay, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, in a tough three-set encounter. All the three sets went to tie-breaker.

Women’s section : World N0 6 Karolina Pliskova, 26, Czech Republic, will play World N0 10 and twice Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, 28, Czech Republic, in the semi-finals of Women’s singles. Caroline Garcia, 24, France, will meet World N0 20 Kiki Bertens, 26, Netherlands, in the other semi-finals.  Kvitova defeated World N0 15 in WTA rankings Daria Kasakina, 21, Russia, in the quarter-finals 6-4, 6-0.

Pliskova had defeated World N0 1 Simona Halep, 26, Romania, in the quarter-finals. Both World N0 2 Caroline Wozniacki and World N0 3 Garbine Muguruza, Spain, lost in the Round of 16 itself.
