Patna : World Number 1 in the ATP rankings Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, and World Number 49 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, have entered the semi-finals of Indian Wells Masters 1000 tennis tournament in California, USA.
Federer, the top seed, defeated World Number 26 Hyeon Chung, 21, South Korea, the 23rd seed, 7-5, 6-1 in the quarter-finals on March 16 to enter the semi-finals. Coric defeated World Number 9 Kevin Anderson, 31, South Africa, the 7th seed, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6, in the quarter-finals.
Federer and Coric will meet in the semi-finals. Federer had beaten Chung in the semi-finals of Australian Open (AO) in January 2018. Chung had retired in the second set trailing 6-1, 5-2 in the AO 2018.
In the Women’s section, 8th seed Venus Williams, 37, USA, defeated 27th seed Carla Suarez Navarro, 27, Spain, 6-3, 6-2, to enter the semi-finals. Venus will play 20th seed Daria Kasatkina, 20, Russia, in the semi-finals. World Number 1 in the WTA rankings Simona Halep, 26, Romania, the top seed, will meet unseeded Naomi Osaka, 20, Japan, the World Number 44, in the other semi-finals.
