Aurangabad : The CBI on February 23, 2018, conducted raids on the premises of Aurangabad DM Kanwal Tanuj, a 2010 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, at Aurangabad, NOIDA, Lucknow, and three other places on February 23, 2018, in connection with alleged irregaularities worth around Rs 2.5 crore in land acquisition for NTPC plant, Aurangabad. Sources said that the CBI conducted raids both at the office and residence of DM Kanwal Tanuj at Aurangabad. Kanwal Tanuj is Aurangabad DM since August 1, 2015.
The CBI registered a corruption case against Aurangabad DM Kanwal Tanuj,C Shiv Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, BRBCL, Nabinagar, and others on February 22, 2018. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in acquisition of land in Nabinagar area Aurangabad district for a power plant by Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Ltd (BRBCL), a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, according to CBI sourcesthey said. According to a CBI FIR, about 7 acres of land was illegally acquired by the accused. A different person, who has since died, was allegedly shown as the owner of the land.
It has been detected that C Shiv Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, BRBCL, Nabinagar, had allegedly entered a criminal conspiracy with DM Tanuj, unidentified officers of the company, district administration and one Gopal Prasad Singh, who has died, according to CBI sources. According to the FIR, the Aurangabad DM forged documents and showed Singh as the owner of the land.
When BRBCL staff and district administration officials went to the site on April 11 and 12, 2017, for possession, the claimant (Singh) allegedly could not identify his land and many villagers, who had gathered there, claimed the land did not belong to him, according to the FIR.
