Patna : World Number 2 Caroline Wozniacki, 27, Denmakrk, finally won her first Grand Slam title after two failed attempts in 2009 and 2014 by winning the Australian Open (AO) title defeating World Number 1 Simona Halep, 26, Romania, in three fiercely contested sets 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 on January 27, 2018, night, at Melbourne Park, Australia.
Wozniacki, aformer World Number 1, had first appeared in US Open final in 2009 but lost. She again lost in the US Open final in 2014. Halep had lost in French Open final in 2014 and 2017. Both the players had become World Number 1 without ever winning a Grand Slam title.
Wozniacki, after winning the AO 2018 title, said that she was dreaming of this moment for the past several years. She now leads Halep 5-2 head to head. Halep has not beaten Wozniacki since 2015. In fact, she lost to Wozniacki twice in 2017.
