Halep, Pliskova enter 4th round of AO 2018

Patna : World Number 1 female tennis player Simona Halep, 26, Romania, entered the 4th round of Australian Open (AO) 2018 defeating Lauren Davis, USA, 4-6, 6-4, 15-13, in a classic third round match lasting three hours and fotyfive minutes at Melbourne on January 20, 2018. The third set lasted for 142 minutes. Lauren Davis is ranked 76th in the WTA rankings.

It was one of the greatest matches ever witnessed at Australan Open lasting 48 games equalling the quarterfinals match between Chanda Rubin and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in 1996. Rubin had won that match in 1996 which too had lasted 48 games. After her victory on January 20, 2018, Halep said she is almost dead.

Number 6 seed Karolina Pliskova, CZE, defeated 29th seed Lucie Safaroca, CZE, 7-6, 7-5 to enter the round of 16. And so did Madison Keys, USA, after defeating Ana Bogdan, Romania 6-3, 6-4.

Madison Keys is ranked 20th in the WTA rankings while Bogdan is ranked 104th. Number 8 seed Caroline Garcia, France, defeated Aliaksandra Sansovich, BLR, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to enter the round of 16. Sansovich is ranked 56 in the WTA rankings.
