Former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel is new Governor of MP

New Delhi : The President of India Ram Nath Kovind on January 19, 2018, night, appointed former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh (MP) with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office, according to a PIB release.

She has replaced Om Prakash Kohli who was holding additional charge of MP Governor since Septemer 2016. Kohli is Governor of Gujarat.

Born on November 21, 1941, Anandiben Patel is a native of village Kharod in Mehsana district in Gujarat. She was the first woman chief minister of Gujarat. She was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in 1994. She was elected Member of Gujarat Assembly in 1998. She became the 15th chief minister of Gujarat on May 22, 2014. She remained the chief minister of the state till August 6, 2016.
