Bencic upsets Venus Williams in AO first round

Patna : World Number 78 in the WTA rankings Belinda Bencic, 20, of Switzerland scored a massive upset on the first day of the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open (AO), stunning fifth seed and 2017 finalist Venus Williams, 37, in the first round 6-3, 7-5. Williams, a seven time major winner, made 26 unforced errors compared to 12 by Bencic. Williams had only 22 winners compared to 32 by Bencic, who refused to be cowed down by her rival’s reputation. Williams, who had beaten Bencic four times before, said Bencic played amazing tennis.
