Patna : Replying to England’s first innings total of 346, Australia were 479/4 in 157 overs at stumps on day three of fifth and final Ashes test at Sydem Cricket Ground (SCG), Sydney, Australia, on January 6, 2018, with Shaun Marsh batting on 98 in 202 balls hitting 10 fours and his younger brother and all rounder Mitchell Marsh unbeaten on 63 in 87 balls hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes. Australia lead the five-match Ashes series 3-0 having won the first three tests.

Resuming at their overnight score of 193/2 with Usman Khwaja unbeaten on 91 and Captain Steve Smith batting on 44, Australia lost only two wickets on the third day. Steve Smith was out for 83 in 158 balls hitting 5 fours when the team score was 274. Smith and Usman Khwaja were involved in third wicket partnership of 188 runs. Khwaja was out to Mason Carne after scoring 171, his first century of the series,when the team score was 375 stitching a fourth wicket partnership of 101 with Shaun Marsh.
