Ara : The members National Students Union of India (NSUI), Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, unit, led by their state president Chunnu Singh staged demonstration and staged dharna for two days in front of the office of Vice-Chancellor (VC), VKSU, Sayyed Mumtajuddin, demanding teaching of Bhojpuri language in the universitry. The demonstration concluded on August 30, 2017.

Addressing the gathering, the NSUI leaders said that teaching of Bhojpuri language was going on in the university till 2015 but it was stopped abruptly in 2016. They said Bhojpuri is spoken in Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Champaran, Saran and even in foreign countries like Maurititious.  They said Bhojpuri is not only a language but their mother tongue. The NSUI leaders said that the Senate and the Syndicate of the VKSU had passed the draft ordinance to start teaching of Bhojpuri language but the governor has not given his nod so far.

VC, VKSU, Sayyed Mumtajuddin,  said that a meeting has been convened on October 11, 2017, by the governor’s office to discuss the issue of teaching of Bhojpuri language in the VKSU. He said VKSU is situated in Bhojpur district and the teaching of Bhojpuri will certainly start here. The university administration was making all possible efforts in this regard.
