Bettiah : An alert West Champaran police on August 23, 2017, morning foiled the attempt of some criminals to commit a major crime under Bettiah Town police station (PS). When the criminals saw  police near Bettiah SDPO  Sanjay Kumar Jha’s residence at Belbagawa, they started firing indiscriminately firing on the police team. Sub – Inspector (SI) Binod Kumar of Bettiah Town police station escaped unhurt in the firing.

Police, in  retaliation,had also fired on the jeep carrying the criminals and chased the vehicle, the tyres of which got punctured in police firing. When the criminals found themselves getting encircled by police, they left their vehicle at village Barawat under Bettiah mufassil police station and fled away. Police seized the vehicle also carrying a JD(U) flag. When the police searched the vehicle they found some papers relating to Rajan Tiwari, a former MLA from Govindganj constituency inside it. Police seized their vehicle.

Police sources said they were informed that a gangster Sikandar Yadav was accompanied by some criminals was moving in Bettiah town to commit crime. Police located their vehicle near Bettiah SDPO Sanjay Kumar Jha’s residence at Belbagawa. Police said that the criminals fled away included  an accused in Bablu Dubey murder case. Dubey was shot dead on Bettiah court premises while going to appear before a court.
