Muzaffarpur : River Budhi Gandak, which is flowing above the danger mark, continues to wreak havoc in Muzaffarpur district and the flood water is now moving towards several areas in Muzaffarpur town including Malighat Rambagh Chauri, Masjid Chowk, Laxmi Narain Colony, Bankers Colony, and Durgasthan, Mithanpura.

The flood water has already entered Jail Chowk, Amrood Bagan and Chandwara areas in the town as the river has damaged the Chhoti Kothia culvert at Malighat. The swollen Budhi Gandak is putting pressure on Sikandarpur embankment. The river had breached Rajbara embankment on August 20. The flood water is already flowing on BMP 6 campus and is also flowing on Muzaffarpur – Pusa road.

Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad and Vaishali MP Rama Kishore Singh alias Rama Singh are visiting flood affected areas in their respective constituencies. In urban areas relief camps are being run under the supervision of Urban Development Minister Suresh Sharma. The Vaishali MP said that he has asked the administration to accelerate the pace of relief operation. Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad visited several flood affected areas under Aurai block on boat on August 22, 2017. Nishad visited flood affected areas under Musahari block on August 23 and asked the district administration to remain alert.

Muzaffarpur DM Dharmendra Singh on August 23 urged the flood affected people to safer places. He said that the district administration has been extending all help to the people. Muzaffarpur Mayor Suresk Kumar and Deputy Mayor Man Mardan Shukla are also very active in relief works. Musahari, Gaighat, Aurai, Katra, Kanti, Paroo, Meenapur and Sahebganj blocks of Muzaffarpur district are alreading under the flood.
