Muzaffarpur : SSP, Muzaffarpur, Vivek Kumar, on May 28, 2017, suspended the SHO of Gaighat police station in Muzaffarpur district and shunted the remaining staff of the police station to policeline for assaulting two sisters including the bride and their family member on May 25, 2017, night. The SHO and other police personnel not only assaulted the women but also took the two sisters to Gaighat police station.
Police attacked the btide, her sister and other family members at their Gaighat residence after Kunkun Singh, father of the bridegroom Alok Kumar, informed the Gaighat police station that his son had been kidnapped and forcibly being married to the girl. Police reached the marriage venue after Alok had put vermilion on the head of the bride (Sindurdaan). Both the bride and her sister were admitted to the hospital. A member of the state commission for women Sangita Sahi reportedly met the injured girls at the hospital and described the police action as barbaric.
