Nawada: A shopping Mall adjoining Nawada collectorate, M K Sales, was gutted in the wee hours on March 19, 2017.   Although the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, short circuit is speculated to have caused it.

However, mall proprietor Mohammad Jackie Haidar, a clerk in Nawada civil court, attributed the fire anti-social elements. The fire, which was first noticed at a readymade shop on the first floor around 3 am by few persons soon engulfed adjoining shops in the three-storied mall. The fire was so devastating that it took three fire tenders summoned from Nawada, Rajgir and Biharshariff about four hours to extinguish it. The mall had come up in 2016. According to the proprietor, the fire caused a damage of about Rs 3 crore.
A local attributed the fire to the callous attitude of the electricity officials who failed to attend to the abnormal voltage
output, as high as 400 volts from the transformer located few metres away at the main gate of Nawada collectorate. Several complaints to the departmental officials went unheeded. Several electronic equipment, refrigerators, televisions etc belonging to the consumers of this transformer are reported to have been burnt in the last few days, said Yashwant Singh, a businessman.
