Gopalganj: With the arrest of three persons, Gopalganj police on January 7 claimed to have busted a gang involved in theft of vehicles. Police recovered four stolen bikes from the possession of the arrested youth.

As per a press release issued by Gopalganj SP, on January 6, a Kateya police team, on a tip off, tried to stop a two-wheeler at Jitan Mor during vehicle checking. A youth driving the bike tried to escape from there but was arrested by  police after a hot chase.The arrested youth was later identified as Firoz Ansari, a native of Jamunaha Bazaar Maheshpur under Kateya police station. He also failed to produce the document of the two-wheeler and the cops found several fake documents of two-wheelers from the dickey of the bike.

Police said that during interrogation, the arrested youth admitted that he was riding on a stolen bike and also confessed his involvement in several cases of theft in the district. The arrested youth also divulged the names of other members of the gang : Govind Ram, a native of village Roop Koiya under Kateya ps, Mintoo Chouhan, a native of village Chitauni under Kateya ps, and Balister Yadav, a native of Kateya.

Acting on the revelations made by the arrested youth, a police team raided the houses of Govind Ram and Mintoo Chouhan and recovered two stolen bikes from their houses. Police also raided the house of kingpin Balister Yadav and  recovered a stolen bike from his house.

Police said that the arrested youths confessed their involvement in three theft cases lodged with Kateya police station. They told police that they sold stolen computer set, cellphone and TV. Police arrested Firoz Ansari, Govind Ram and Mintoo Chouhan.
