Bettiah : Flood situation continues to be grim in West Champaran district due to devastation caused the flooded hilly rivers originating from Nepal. West Champaran DM Nilesh Deora on August 14, 2017, said that seven persons were feared drowned in the flood under Gaunaha block under Narkatiaganj Sub-Division of the district. The DM said that the bodies of three persons had been recovered so far. The DM said that two teams of NDRF and one SDRF team have been pressed into rescue operations under Narkatiaganj, Gaunaha and Ramnagar blocks in the district.
The flood situation turned alarming under Bagaha Sub – Division in West Champaran district when a ring bund over river Gandak breached on August 13 near village Shripatinagar in Semra-Labdeha panchayat under Piparasi block inundating about 400 houses. The resideces of Bagaha SDM and SDPO besides SP office and policeline are still under one to three feet deep flood water.
Road communication on Bagaha-Valmikinagar NH 28 (b), which leads to Paniyahawa in Uttar Pradesh via Madanpur, is still disrupted. Rail traffic on Narakatiganj – Sugauli and Narakatiganj -Kaptanganj sections under Samastipur Division of East Central Railways (ECR) remaineded suspended for second consecutive day as waist deep flood water of river Harbora river is flowing on the tracks. Flood and rain water has entered Narakatiganj rail yard, according to StationĀ Superintendent, Bettiah, Arun Srivastawa.
The students of residential Kasturba Gandhi Middle School, Bhitaharawa, have been shifted to the first floor of the hostel building as the water of Pandai and Belor river has entered to ground floor of the hostelbuilding. Power supply remained suspended at Bagaha, Ramnagar and Narakaiganj as waist deep flood water is flowing on the Powergrid station campus.
Sources said that about one dozen people of Narakatiganj, Gaunaha and Mainatand blocks underĀ Narkatiaganj Sub – Division were missing in the devastating flood. Bodies of Chulbul Dixit, Guddu Dixit, and Nura Khatoon, wife of Ashalam Mian, have been recovered so far. Meanwhile, flood water has started receeding from Ramnagar Nagar panchayat.
