Ara : Bhojpur police seized seven trucks carrying 161 cattle and also arrested eight truck drivers and six cattle smugglers near the Abdul Bari Bridge, Koelwar, on August 20, 2017, night, when they were trying to cross the bridge. An FIR was lodged with Koelwar police station under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act in this connection.

SHO, Koelwar police station, Pankaj Saini said that he got information that some cattle smugglers were going to Saran district with cattle on trucks. Police mmediately swung into action and intercepted vehicles on the Abdul Bari bridge and seized 7  trucks carrying 161 cattle including 76 cows, 65 calves and 13 buffalos. The SHO said that five calves had died.

Police also arrested eight truck drivers: Kamlesh Yadav, Pandit Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Bijay Yadav of Brahmpur police station area in Buxar district and Ayodhya Yadav, Lalan Yadav, Butai Bind, Rajeshwara Yadav of Chhapara, and six cattle smugglers. The SHO further said that as per the provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, only four cattle can be loaded in one truck at a time. The cattle have been kept on Koelwar police station premises.
