Simon routes top seed Medvedev in QFs of Open 13 Provence

Patna : World No 58 Gilles Simon, 35, France, routed top seed & World No 5 Daniil Medvedev, 24, Russia, in quarter-finals of Open 13 Provence, an ATP Tour 250 event played on indoor hard courts at Marseille, France, on February 21, 2020, late night, to reach the semi-finals of the tournament. Simon stunned Medvedev, who had reached 9 finals in 2019, 6-4, 6-0 in just 67 minutes in quarter-finals. Simon will face World No 18 Felix Auger-Aliassime, 19, Canada, in SFs at 9 pm on February 22, 2020.

Simon won 5 break points in the match to 1 by Medvedev. He won 8 games in a row in the match to 2 by the Russian. Simon, in all, won 59 points to 31 by top seed Medvedev. Simon’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 91% & 69%) was much higher than that of Medvedev (49 % & 39 %).

Second seed & World No 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greec, will face World No 55 Alexgander Bublik, 22, Kazakhstan, in the first semi-finals at 7.30 pm on February 22, 2020. Tsitsipas beat World No 98 Vasek Pospisil, 29, Canada, 7-5, 6-3 winning 3 break points in quarter-finals in 1 hr 26 minutes on February 21 night.

Bublik upset 4th seed & World No 15 Denis Shapovalov, 20, Canada, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in 2hr 17 minutes in QFs on February 21 night. Bublik fired 13 Aces in the match to 5 by Shapovalov. He won 3 break points to 2 by the Canadian. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Bublik, in all, won 106 points to 95 by the Canadian.
