Sasaram : Four persons died allegedly after consuming hooch at village Danwar under Kachhawa police station in Rohtas district on October 27, 2017, evening.

Despite ban on sale and purchase of liquor in Bihar and regular raids being conducted by the district police at different places and arrest of several persons so far, four persons died while over half a dozen fell ill after consuming illicit liquor at village Danwar. The persons falling ill were admitted to different hospitals for treatment.

Though the doctors and officials of the district administration refrained from admitting that the death was due to consumption of hooch, the locals said that some people were drinking since October 26, 2017, and four of them died due to drinking of illicit liquor and several persons fell ill. The death of four persons allegedly after consumption of hooch has created rippled in the Rohtas district administration.

Rohtas SP Manav Jeet Singh Dhillon confirmed death of four persons but claimed that they died due to eating some poisonous things. He said that inquiry into the incident has been ordered and the exact reason behind their death will be ascertained after the post-mortem and inquiry report come. On the other hand, locals said that liquor is being sold openly despite prohibition and liquor mafias are very much active in this area.
