Bettiah : The SSB jawans of 44th Battalion, Narakatiaganj, in West Champaran district, led by Deputy Commandant Ajay kumar Rajak, on June 9, 2017, late evening seized a lord Buddha statue weighing 4.9 kg concealed in a bag from Anwar Mian, 40, son of Bargah Mian of village Manguraha under Gaunaha police station, allegedly a smuggler.
Anwar was trying to board a train at Gaunaha railway station under Narakatiaganj rail section under Samastipur division of ECR, Hajipur, when the SSB jawans caught him. The statue is believed to be of 12 century AD and is worth about Rs 1.22 crore in the international market. The Deputy commandant said that the seized statue and the smuggler were handed over to the Gaunaha police station on June 10 for necessary action.
