Motihari  :The killing of two persons in separate mob lynching incidents in last 24 hours in East Champaran District in North Bihar has exposed the law and order in the district.

One Shatrughna Singh, 55 , a small farmer  of  Dumaraha-Dumari village under Mejarganj police station in Sitamarhi district was beaten to death by an unruly mob on September 7, 2019, evening, on road near village Phulwariya under Fenehara police station on suspicion of being a child lifter. Surendra Singh, a resident of village Kumhrar, who identified the deceased said that
Shatrughna Singh was  his  brother- in- law and was staying with him for last two days. He had been here to purchase a buffalo, said Surendra. At the time of incident, Shatrughna Singh was going to village Madpa to meet his another relative.

Dinesh Pandey, SDPO , Pakaridayal, said an FIR has been lodged in this connection and those involved in killing Shatrughna Singh would be arrested soon.

In another incident on September 6, 2019, evening, a young man was beaten to death by a mob on the suspicion of being child lifter at Chakaniya –Mushahartoli  under Pipra police station. Police recovered the body  from an agriculture field near the village and sent it to Motihari Sadar Hospital for post- mortem. The deceased has not been identified. SDPO, Chakiya, Shailendra Kumar, said that an FIR has been  lodged  in this regard with Pipra police station against  unknown and police are investigating into the incident.

According to villagers,  a 24 year old man came to Mushhartoli and was loitering there. Some villagers asked  him about the  purpose of his visit but he could not reply. The villagers suspecting him to be a child lifter thrashed him to death. The body was thrown into an  agriculture field.

SHO, Pipra police station, Mukesh Kumar, said that those involved in the incident would be arrested soon. Some villagers
said that deceased was mentally challenged and they had seen him  many times near Pipra station.

On September 5, 2019, a day before the mob lynching at Mushahartoli, the villagers had caught  three women moving aimlessly at village  Ramkaran Pakari under Chakiya police station. The women said that they were  native of  Muzaffarpur but
they  failed to answer  the purpose of  their visit there. The villagers  suspecting them to be child lifters thrashed them but the
timely arrival of police  saved them. They were taken by Chakiya police for interrogation.

Similarly, a  woman  was  caught by the villagers at village Gidha under  Sugauli police station on September 6, 2019, and after thrashing her handed her over to the police. A youngman  was beaten up by the villagers at Kesariya  under the same
police station on September 6, 2019, on the suspicion of being a child lifter.
