Female ward members of Andhari Pnachayat on indefinite fast

Ara: At least half a dozen female ward membera of Andhari panchayat under Sahar block in Bhojpur district sat on indefinite fast on Saturday in front of the office of Bhojpur DM in protest against alleged irregularities by the Sahar Block Development Officer (BDO) Deepchand Joshi during election of Up-Mukhia of the panchayat on June 22, 2016. Hundreds of villagers also staged a day long dharana there in their support and raised slogans against the BDO and the District Magistrate. The ward members said that they voted for the election for the UP-Mukhia of the panchayat and 10 of 16 of them voted in favour of Santara Devi but the BDO declared another person winner who got only six votes. They said that they had registered their protest on the spot but to no avail. Later, a delegation met the DM and handed him over a memorandum urging him to Bihar cancel the election and order re-election. They also faxed the matter to the Bihar Governor.
