Patna: Maithili has become a popular subject for the IAS aspirants from Bihar. For the first time 18 students from Bihar have been selected to the civil services -IAS,IPS,IFS and allied services, by writing their papers in Maithili language which is on the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
Purnendu shekhar Jha from Dhamdhaha (Purnia), who runs Manthan IAS Academy in New Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar, told Tthe SPEEDPOST over phone that most of the students who are successgul with Maithili are from engineering as their educational background.For the first time,a girl-Rajni Jha from Jamshedpur too has been selected for the civil services with Maithili as her paper in the examination.She got 391 ranks.
Purnendu said last year too 15 students of his Academy had entered the cuvil services with Maithili as their paper.Even science and engineering graduates had opted for Maithili as their main paper.He said this year,50 students with Maithili as their paper had qualified for the mains and out of them 32 were called for interview and 18 got selected.
Govind Jha, a doctor at Darbhanga Medical College and son of a retired school teacher Mahesh Jha of Chhatapur in Supaul district, one of the successful Maithili candidate,had his schooling at Saharsa.He is placed at 236 position.Another school teacher’s son Govind Shukla from Bhagalpur has been selected with 245 as his rank.His fatehr Ravishankar Shukla is also a retired school teacher.
