New Delhi : Only 16,375 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in India in last 24 hours taking the tally 1,03,56,844 cases at 8 am on January 5, 2021. In sharp contrast, 29,091 Covid-19 patients were declared cured/discharged in India in last 24 hours taking the tally to 99,75,958 on January 5, 2021, exceeding the number of active cases (2,31,036) by a huge margin of 97,44,922. The active cases accounted for only 2.23% of the total Covid -19 cases ( 1,03,56,844) on January 5, 2021, a drop of 12,917 cases in last 24 hours.
Of the 1,03,56,844 Covid-19 cases recorded so far in India, altogether 99,75,958 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate (RR) being 96.32%. India has tested 17,65,31,997 samples so far including 8,96,236 samples on January 4, 2021.
The Covid-19 toll climbed to 1,49,850 in India on January 5, 2021, with 201 new deaths being recorded in last 24 hours including 29 in Maharashtra, 25 in West Bengal, 24 in Punjab, 19 in Kerala, 12 in Delhi, 12 in Chhattisgarh, 10 in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Tamilnadu, 8 in Uttarakhand, 7 in Madhya Pradesh, 6 in Haryana, 5 in J&K, 4 in Rajasthan, 3 in Karnataka, 3 in Andhra Pradesh, 3 in Gujarat, 3 in Manipur, 3 in Bihar, and 1 in Jharkhand. India had recorded 214 new deaths on January 4, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry data.
