Patna : New Zealand (NZ) declared their first innings at 659/6 in 158.5 oversĀ  in 2nd test against Pakistan at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on Day 3 on January 5, 2021, with captain Kane Williamson scoring a brilliant 238 in 364 balls hitting 28 fours, his 4th test double ton and 24th overall, Henry Nicholls scoring 157, his 7th test century, and all-rounder Daryl Mitchell an unbeaten 102 in 112 balls, his first test century. At stumps on Day 3, Pakistan, who had scored 297 in their first innings, were 8/1 in 11 overs trailing by 354 runs.

Resuming at their overnight score of 286/3, NZ lost their 4th wicket at 440 when Nicholls fell to fast bowler Mohd Abbas for 157. Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls added 369 runs for the 4th wicket. B J Watling 9wk) fell to fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for 7 and it was 452/5. Williamson and Daryl Mitchell then added 133 runs for the 6th wicket.
