Bagaha : Around 150 families of village Umatola under Thakaraha block of Bagaha sub-division in West Champaran district were rendered homeless on April 14, 2018, evening, in a devastating fire that  broke out at the house of one Devanandan Yadav during cooking of food. Due to westerly wind, the fire soon engulfed several other houses at the village and the affected families could not take out their valuables and oher belongings from their houses.

Surendra Yadav, Mukhia of Motipur panchayat, said that about a dozen cattle heads besides goats and hens were reportedly roasted alive in the fire. The marriages of daughters of Subash Chaudhary and Shyam Sunder Yadav are solemnised within a week but all their preparations went awry in the fire in which half a dozen villagers sustained minor burn injuries while extinguishing fire. The fire tender did not reach in time from Uttar Pradesh despite repeated request, said SHO, Thakaraha police station, Suresh Kumar. The loss of property is estimated to be in crores, the Mukhia  said.

Block Development Officer, Thakaraha, Rakesh Kumar, and SHO, Thakaraha police station, Suresh Kumar, reached the spot to take stock of the situation.The BDO said that final list of the fire victims is being prepared for relief.
