Bettiah : A student Vaibhav Kumar, 6, son of Sandip Barnwal of Rajguru chowk, Bettiah, was  killed while around a dozen students were injured when part of roof of a classroom collapsed at St. Aloysius Middle School, Church Road, Bettiah, in West Champaran district in North Bihar on September 25, 2018, morning.

The injured were referred to MJK District Hospital, Bettiah, from a private clinic. The MJK hospital referred two students to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Sources said that children of Standard I (A) of St Aloysius Middle school, Church locality, Bettiah, were in their classroom when suddenly a portion of the roof stage collapsed. The school management first shut down the main gate of the school and started shifting the injured children from back door to a private clinic.

Soon after the incident, a photo journalist who reached the school, was also detained by the school management till the cops from Kalibagh Town Police Outpost led by Incharge Manish Kumar Sharma with a force reached there. They were accompanied by mediapersons. When police reached there, the school gate was opened. The cops noticed blood stain on the school ground and the plaster being washed.

Later, SP, West Champaran, Jayant Kant, reached there.The SP said that no will be spared if  found guilty. A group of Bettiah residents blocked.church road following the incident. Police resorted to mild lathcharge to remove the blockade.DM, West Champaran, Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, visited  the house of agrieved family along with SP Jayant Kant, and handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to the parents of the decaesed. SDM, Bettiah, Vidyanand Paswan, and BJP national vice-president Renu Devi also visited them. A case under various sections of the IPC will be lodged against the school management, the SP said.

The DM has constituted a five-member team to inquire into the incident. The school will remain closed till the inquiry is complete.
