Patna : Third seed Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, stunned top seed Novak Djokovic, 34, Serbia, in a three-set thriller in semi-final on November 20, 2021, late night, to reach final of season-ending Nitto ATP Finals at Turin, Italy. Reigning Olympics champion Zverev will face 2nd seed Daniil Medvedev, 25, Russia, in final at 9.30 pm on November 21, 2021. Medvedev defeated  8th Casper Ruud, 22, Norway, 6-4, 6-2 in semi-final.

World No 3 Zverev beat World No 1 & winner of 20 Grand Slam singles title Djokovic 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in 2hr 28 minutes in semi-final. Both the players won 1 break point each and 3 games in a row each during the match. Djokovic though hammetred 15 Aces during the match to 14 by the German. Both the players committed 1 double fault each in the match. Zverev, in all, won 98 points during the match to 90 points by the Serbian. The German also won the first set tie-break.

Zverev had also defeated Djokovic in semi-final of Tokyo Olympics this year. The Serbian had defeated Zverev in semi-final of US Open and QF of Australian Open this year. Djokovic, however, still leads Zverev  7-4 Head to Head.
