Patna : World N 5 Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, who had upset World No 1 Novak Djokovic, 34, Serbia, in semi-final, drubbed World No 25 Karen Khachanov, 25, Russia, 6-3, 6-1 in men’s singles tennis final at Tokyo Olympics on August 1, 2021, to clinch gold medal. Zverev now leads Khachanov 3-2 Head to Head. It is Zverev’s biggest title in his career.
Khachanov put up some resistance in first set but Zverev was all over him in the second set to easily win the match. The Russian had reached Wimbledon quaetwr-finals in 2021 and French Open quartre-finals in 2019. Zverev had reached US Open final in 2020 and French Open semi-finals in 2021. Steffi Graf, Germany, Germany, had won Gold Medal in women’s tennis in 1988 Seoul Olympics.
