Patna : World Number 107 in ATP rankings Yuki Bhambri, 25, India, upset World Number 75 Mirza Basic, 26, Bosnia & Harzegovina, in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, in the first round of MIami Open ATP Masters 1000 tournament, a hard court event, at Crandon Park Tennis Centre, Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida, USA, on March 22, 2018.
MirzaBasic had won his ATP World Tour singles title, the Sofia Ope, Bulgaria, in February 2018. Bhambri entered the tournament through qualifiers.
In the Women’s section, World Number 1 in WTA rankings Simona Halep, 26, Romania, defeated World Number 98 Oceane Dodin, 21, France, in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, to enter the third round. But, Carla Suarez Navarro, Spain, the 27th seed, lost to Yafan F Wang, 23, China, 5-7, 3-6, in the second round.
World Number 122 Alison Riske, 27, USA, upset World Number 7 in WTA rankings Caroline Garcia, 24, France, the 7th seed, 6-3, 6-1. World Number 27 Svetlana Kuznetsova, 32, Russia, the 18th seed, lost to Z Diyas, 1-6, 3-6, in a second round match.
