Ara : Hundreds of villagers went on rampage and set ablaze three tractors and one car and damaged a pick-up van at village Bairahi under Jagdishpur police station (PS) in Bhojpur on South Bihar on February 20, 2021, after a youth was shot at and injured by some miscreants  for protesting vulgar songs on Disc Jockey (DJ) during immersion procession of Goddess Saraswati.

The injured was identified as Vikas Kumar, 18,  son of Sri Bhagwan Singh of Bairahi village. He was admitted to a private clinic at Ara but the doctor referred him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). An FIR has been lodged with Jagdishpur police station in this connection and police are conducting raids to arrest the miscreants. Tension prevails in and around Bairahi village following the incident and police are camping at the village to maintain law and order.

Abhi Kumar, uncle of the injured, said that some youth had taken out procession for the immersion of the idol of Goddess Saraswati in the on February 20, 2021, afternoon, and they were playing vulgar songs on the DJ. When another group at the village protested playing of vulgar songs, the two groups clashed during which Vikas Kumar was shot at and injured Vikas Kumar.

After the incident, villagers got agitated and they went on rampage and set ablaze three tractors, one generator set, and a car, and also damaged a Pick-Up van. On getting information, Jagdishpur SDPO Shyam Kishore Ranjan along with police force rushed to the spot and started investigating the matter.

It was said that there was between two groups of the village for the last several months over some issues. The puja organisers were allegedly playing vulgar songs which were opposed by another group at the village.
