Patna : World No 10 AN Se Young, 17, South Korea, beat World No 14 Sung Ji Hyun, 28, South Korea, in straight games to lift the women’s singles title at Gwangju Korea masters, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, at Gwangju Metropolitan City, South Korea, on November 24, 2019.

Young, the 7th seed, beat 5th seed Hyun 21-13, 21-17 in 45 minutes in the final to win the women’s singles title and bagged 7,000 BWF rankings points plus the cash award.  Hyun secured 5,950 points besides the cash award as runner-up. Young won 42 rallies in the match to 30 by Hyun.

Young won 5 consecutive points in the match to 6 by Hyun. Hyun, however, still leads Young 3-1 Head to Head. Young had upset top seed and World No 4 Akanae Yamaguchi, 22, Japan, in the semi-finals on November 23.

Young had won Yonex French Open title, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, on October 27, 2019, defeating reigning Olympic champion and three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, in the final. Carolina, who has won 29 career titles, had won World Championships title in 2014, 2015, and 2018.
