Patna : World No 78 Andrey Rublev, 21, Russia, stunned top seed and World No 4 Dominic Thiem, 25, Austria, in straight sets in the quarter-finals on July 26, 2019, to advance to the semi-finals of Hamburg European Open, an ATP 500 points tournament, at Hamburg, Germany.

Rublev beat Thiem, who had reached French Open finals both in 2018 and 2019, 7-6, 7-6 in 1 hr 47 minutes in the QFs. Both the players won 2 break points each. Rublev’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (77% & 61 %) was slightly better than that of Thiem (72% & 59 %).

But, 2nd seed and World No 5 Alexander Zverev, 22, beat World No 58 Filip Krajinovic, 27, Serbia, in three-sets 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 in 2 hr 20 minutes in the QFs to enter the SFs of the tournament. Zverev fired 12 Aces in the match to 2 by Krajinovic. The German won 5 break points to 4 by the Serbian.Both the players won 7 games each in a row in the match.

World No 16 and 4th seed Nikoloz Vasilashvili, 27, Georgia, beat World No Jeremy Chardy, France, 6-2, 6-3 to enter the semi-finals of the tournament. Basilashvili won 4 break points to 1 by Chardy. Basilashvili also won 3 games in a row in the match.
