Patna : Two-time finalist & 4th seed Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, crashed out of French Open Championships on May 30, 2021, suffering a shock defeat at the hands of World N0 68 Pablo Andujar, 35, Spain, in first round of the Grand Slam tournament played on outdoor clay courts.

Andujar battled past the reigning US Open Champion Thiem in a five-set marathon in first round rallying back from two-set down to win 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in over 4 hrs 28 minutes at Roland Garros, Paris, France. Thiem blew away the two-set lead in the match making a first round exit. Andujar had recently stunned Roger Federer, 39, Switzerland, the winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles, in first round at at Geneva Open..

A resurgent Andujar won 7 break points during the match to 6 by World No 4 Theim, who had reached French Open final in both 2018 & 2019 and Australian Open final in 2020. Both the players fired 4 Aces each in the match. Andujar, in all, won 172 points during the match to 168 points by Theim. The Austrian committed 7 double faults during the match to 8 by the Spaniard. World No 11 Agut won 5 games in a row duringt the match to 2 by Martinez. Martinez though fired 7 Aces in the match to just 2 by Agut. Martinez, however, committed 9 double faults to 2 by Agut. Agut, in all, won 96 points in the match to 69 by Martinez.

12th Seed Pablo Carreno Busta, 29, Spain, beat World No 87 Norbert Gombos, 30, Slovakia, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in first round. Gobos though hammered 10 Aces in the match to 7 by Busta, who won 4 break pointsbesides 4 games in a row during the match.
