Patna : World No 61 Malek Jaziri, 34, Tunisia, stunned World No 5 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16 of China Open, an ATP World Tour 500 event, on October 4, 2018, causing a major upset in the tournament. Jaziri beat Zverev in a three-set thriller to enter quarter-finals of China Open 2018. Jaziri served 8 Aces in the match to 9 by Zverev.

World No 13 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, beat World No 68 Andrey Rublev, 20, Russia, 6-4, 6-3 to enter the quarter-finals of China Open. Fognini won 3 break points in the match to none by Rublev. Fognini served 7 Aces in the match to 4 by Rublev. But Zverev won 4 break points to 3 by Jaziri. Zverev committed 2 double faults compared to 5 by Jaziri.

World No 45 Marton Fucsovics, 26, Hungary, also entered the QF beating World No 22 Marco Cecchinato, 26, Italy, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Fucsovics won 3 break points in the match. World No 34 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 26, Georgia, beat World No 28 Fernando Ferdasco, 34, Spain, 7-6, 6-4 to enter the QF of China Open.
