Patna : World Number 109 Taro Daniel, 25, Japan, a qualifier, stunned former World Number 1 and five time champion Novak Djokovic, 30, Serbia, in three sets 7-6, 4-6, 6-1, in the second round of Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 tennis tournament on March 11, 2018. Djokovic made 58 unforced errors in the match. It was Djokovic’s earliest loss in the tournament since a first round loss in 2006. He had also lost in the 4th round of Australian Open (AO) in January 2018.

World Number 110 Yuki Bhambri, 25, also a qualifier, shocked World Number 12 Lucas Pouilli, 24, France, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, in the second round on March 11 to enter the Round of 32. Pouilli was seeded 9th in the tournament.

But, World Number 1 and top seed Roger Federer, 36, Swizerland, defeated World Number 67 Fedrico Delbonis, 27, Argentina, 6-3, 7-6, to enter the Round of 32.  World Number 42 Gael Monfils, 31, France, upset Number 15 seed John Isner, USA, the World Number 18, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5.
