Patna : World No 1 & top seed Novak Djokovic, 34, Serbia, reached the US Open men’s singles semi-finals on September 9, 2021, early morning, defeating 6th seed Matteo Berrettini, 25, Italy, in four-sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 in quarter-final at Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York, USA, rallying back from one set down.

Djokovic, who is gunning for a Calendar Slam having already won Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon titles this year,  had also defeated Berrettini in Wimbledon singles final this year.

Djokovic, who had won US Open title in 2011, 2015, and 2018, won 5 break points in the match to just 1 by the Italian World No 6. The Serbian, who has won record equalling 20 Grand Slam singles titles, also won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by Berrettini. Djokovic, in all, won 147 points during the match to 117 points by the Italian.  Berrettini, however, hammered 17 Aces during the match to 12 by the Serbian World No 1, who has won 9 Australian Open titles.

Djokovic will face Tokyo Lympics Gold medallist & World No 4 Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, in semi-final on September 11, 2021.
