Patna : Top seed Ashleigh Barty, 25, Australia, and World No 51 Madison Keys, 26, USA, stormed into women’s sngles semi-finals of Australian Open (AO) 2022 both hammered their respective quarter-final opponent in straight sets. Barty and Madison will clash in semi-final on January 27, 2022.
World No 1 Barty conceded just 2 games in her victory over 21sr seed Jessica Pegula, 27, USA, while Madison conceded just 5 games to her opponent and 4th seed Barbora Krejcikova, 26, Czech Republic.
Reigning Wimbledon champion Barty, the winner of two Grand Slam singles titles, beat World No 21 Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-0 in quarter-final on Rod Laver Arena winning 5 break points and 9 games in a row during the match. Madison, who had stunned 2020 AO champion & 11th seed Sofia Kenin, 23, USA, in 1st round and 8th seed Paula Badosa, 24, Spain, in 4th round, won 4 break points during the match to just 1 by Krejcimova.
