Patna : World Champion Busenaz Surmeneli, 23, Turkey, defeated Lovlina Borgohain, 23, India, in women’s 69 kg welterweight semi-final on August 4, 2021, to reach final of the event. Lovlina Borgohain, who hails from Assam,  had to settle for Bronze Medal, the third India boxer to win an Olympic medal after Vijendra Singh (2008) and Mary Kom (20212).

Busenaz Surmeneli beat Lovina Borgohain 5-0 in the semi-final in an unanimous decision. Lovlina lost 0-5 in first round. In the second round Lovlina was warned and a point was deducted of her total points in second round. Surmeneli was all over Lovlina in the third round.
