Bokaro ( Jharkhand) : The two- day sports workshop to promote Olympic values and Olympic education system in India concluded at DPS Chas in Bokaro district on December 2, 2018. The workshop was conducted by Indian Pierre Coubertin Association (IPCA) headed by former players of Jharkhand to introduce a values-based sporting culture in schools akin to its parent body, International Pierre De Coubertin Committee (CIPC).
The function began with lighting of the lamp by Dilip Tirkey (President of IPCA), Jaydeep Sarkar (Treasurer of IPCA), Vincinsiya (State Co-ordinator) along with Rashmi Sinha (Principal Incharge, DPS Chas). Welcoming the guests, Principal Incharge, Ms Sinha said that the school is privileged to host such a workshop which will augment sportsman spirit and moral values amongst sportspersons. Sports Teachers and students from DPS Bokaro, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Sree Ayyappa, DAV, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Holy Cross, Adarsh Vidya Mandir, and several other schools of Bokaro participated at this workshop.
The workshop was divided into several sessions with all the resource persons addressing the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Dilip Tirkey opined that sports correlated with education can produce good citizens. He stressed on the need of sportsman sprit. Jaydeep Sarkar highlighted the evils of sports and how it defeats the true spirit of the sports. He also urged the participants to follow the morals and values as envisaged by Sir Pierre Coubertin and also his thoughts in relation to Olympics. Dr Umakant Singh shared knowledge about Olympics games history and focussed on teamwork in sports through several interesting activities and games.
Sarojini Lakra (General Secretary IPCA) apprised the audience of the aims , objectives and working of IPCA through power point presentation. Different issues like health value, performance-based sports, sportsman spirit were the key factors of which solutions were sought by discussion.
